Bahamas Children's Emergency Hostel
As part of the Awareness Program, staff from A.R.C. Worldwide visited the Bahamas Children's Emergency Hostel in August 2006. Based in Nassau, the Hostel was the first of it’s kind to be established in the capital of the Bahamas.
The Hostel provides residence for boys and girls, from the ages of 6 weeks through to 11 years. Children are admitted to the Hostel for a variety of reasons, and are often the victims of abuse and/or neglect by parents or caregivers, or have been orphaned or sent by the state social services.
The Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel accommodates a maximum of 35 children, and when we visited, the Hostel had reached near full capacity.
The Bahamian government provides some subsidies to the Hostel, while other funds are received from Kiwanis International. All donations and gifts are accepted, including clothes, shoes, books and toys. School supplies, including books, stationary and school uniforms are often in need.
If you are interested in providing a donation or would like more information about the Bahamas Children’s Emergency Hostel, please contact the Hostel directly.
