Situated in the Daryaganj district of Delhi, Arya Orphanage is an institution that operates homes for both girls and boys within the same compound. Specifically, the orphanage runs the Arya Bal Griha, which is a home for boys between the ages of 5 and 17 years; and the Arya Kanya Sadan, which is a home for girls between the ages of 5 and 10 years.
The Orphanage has a number of facilities including a school, computer room, dispensary and prayer room, and overall is very clean, tidy and well-maintained.
In May 2007, staff from the A.R.C. Worldwide Trust visited the Orphanage as part of our Aid and Awareness Programs. At the time of our visit, Arya Orphanage had a total of 1050 children resident. The majority of children are paternal orphans, although some have lost both parents, and none of the children are available for adoption.
All of the children attend the school which is located within the Orphanage compound, and continue to attend until they are 18 years of age. Once they reach 18 years of age, all children are encouraged to attend higher education institutions. As far as possible and where funding allows, Arya Orphanage continues to pay for each childs higher education, and assists the children to find jobs at the completion of their higher education studies. If children are not successful in finding jobs, the Orphanage offers them the opportunity to work at the Orphanage as wardens, or assists to arrange marriages for the girls.
The Orphanage receives the large majority of its funding from private donors, and also by making door-to-door collections within the local community. However, financial donations and gifts of food and clothing are always welcome, and in line with our Aid Program, the A.R.C. Worldwide Trust provided a moderate financial donation.
