Jain Bal Ashram
In May 2007, staff from the A.R.C. Worldwide Trust made a visit to the Jain Bal Ashram, as part of our Awareness Program. Situated in the Daryaganj district of Delhi, Jain Bal Ashram has been operating as an orphanage for boys between the ages of 8 and 18 years, for more than 100 years. Although the Ashram is managed by the Jain community, the home is non-religious and takes in boys from any religious affiliation. All the children residing in the Ashram are orphans - some have lost both parents, while others are either maternal or paternal orphans.
The Ashram is well-run, and has capacity for a maximum of 500 children. At the time of our visit, 80 boys were residing in the Ashram. All children are encouraged to go to school, and there is a school situated opposite the Ashram, which the majority of boys attend. Teachers are also available, and make visits to the Ashram to provide tuition.
Jain Bal Ashram has a number of facilities for the children, including a library and TV room. A.R.C. Worldwide Trust staff were provided with a tour around the Ashram, and although the facilities were tidy and adequate, the Ashram would benefit from some minor repairs and renovation, to make the residence more comfortable for the boys. Additionally, furniture such as chairs for the TV room, may also be of benefit.
The Ashram receives some financial support from the local government authorities, although the majority of finances are provided by donations from the local community. However, the Ashram is grateful for any financial donations, or gifts such as food, clothing and school resources.
If you are interested in providing a donation, or would like more information about the Jain Bal Ashram, please contact the Ashram directly.
