We are pleased to announce the next instalment in our publications series! Authored by volunteer Gustavo Pereira Vidigal, the report Child Labour in Brazil provides a summary of child labour globally, before providing an overview of the situation in Brazil. An in-depth look at some of the organisations actively working to address child labour in the country is also provided. The report is available for download in our publications section, or may be purchased by contacting us.

A revised version of the report will be available later in the year, and will include specific information regarding the situation of child labour in Brazil’s regions.

You can also read about Gustavo’s experience with us here.

This month we are pleased to announce the launch of two more summary papers specifically focusing on the issue of child labour. The summary papers add to our growing pool of resources on child labour around the globe, and are additions to a previous paper on Child Labour in Nepal. The summary paper Child Labour in South Africa is authored by South African-based volunteer Elizabeth Musvoto. Outlining the issue of child labour within the South African context, the paper specifically identifies the types of child labour prevalent in the country, in addition to the antecedents and consequences of labour for South African children. An overview of some of the country's legislation regarding the issue is provided, in addition to a broad discussion of how the problem may be best addressed.

Authored by American volunteer Jonathon Thompson, Child Labour in Latin America provides a broad outline of child labour across Latin American countries, and looks specifically at incidence rates and demographic factors including gender, education, poverty and health. The paper also discusses the continuing decline in the total number of child labourers across the continent, and the rehabilitative initiatives that appear to be playing a part in this decline and having a beneficial impact on former labourers.  A more in-depth report that focuses on Child Labour in Brazil will be available next month, as a follow-up to this brief paper. All of the papers are available for download in our publications section, or may be purchased by contacting us.

Work continues on updating the Spanish version of our website, and should be complete by the end of the month. The Spanish version will be available again from the beginning of April. We apologise for any inconvenience the removal of the Spanish website may have caused.

We are pleased to announce the launching of the French version of or website. Many thanks to our volunteer Audrey Langlassé for her many hours of energy, effort and dedication to the website! Audrey continues to volunteer for the Trust by updating the French website on a monthly basis. You can view the French version here.

Natasha Tassell, one of the Trustees of the A.R.C. Worldwide Trust is seeking humanitarian workers to complete an online questionnaire as part of her PhD research data collection. See the details below if you are interested!

English - Hello! My name is Natasha Tassell and I am currently conducting my Doctoral research through the School of Psychology at Massey University, New Zealand. I am interested in the psychology of health work in humanitarian settings – what motivates people - how they feel about the work, themselves and life in general. I have been involved in humanitarian work myself, so am aware it can be difficult and demanding! But also very rewarding too! So an increased understanding of the dynamics of the humanitarian experience seems a worthwhile research endeavour from my point of view. So if you have recently or are currently deployed to a humanitarian relief or development setting, I’d like to invite you to take part in this research. If you would like to help out then follow the link below: http://psych-research.massey.ac.nz/tassell/
